"A must read romance!"~ Serena Chase, Special for USA TODAY
Far from the shores of England, another Elizabeth was born to rule a nation…
The daughter of Peter the Great, Elizabeth is a princess by birth, yet a warrior by blood. Never content to be a pawn in the game of men, Elizabeth is destined to sit upon a throne. But when her father’s sudden death leaves her mother and sister at the mercy of the scheming Privy Council, she will have to abandon her beloved Russia in order for her family to survive.
This is not a fairy tale.
And Elizabeth is not an average princess.
She is a Romanov—one woman in a line of powerful female rulers who will change the fate of Russia forever.

"I’m a fan of historical fiction and I LOVE the Stolen Empire series—I can’t get enough of it. I was thrilled when I found out there was going to be another book in the series, and again when I receive a copy of Sherry Ficklin’s latest novella in the series.
The Winter Queen is a prequel to the Stolen Empire series and focuses on the life of Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter the Great and future Empress of Russia. This novella is a quick read, and thrusts us right into the upheaval of the Russian elite. We get to meet the Princess Elizabeth and her sister Petra, witness the death of the heir presumptive to the Romanov line, and then the death of Peter the Great.
With their mother in Russia, trying to maintain a hold on Russia and others trying to secure the power for themselves, Elizabeth and Petra are suddenly in a very tenuous position. They are sent to the “safety†of arranged marriages, but Elizabeth was born a Romanov, and the throne is only just out of her grasp…for now.
I can’t wait for the next installment of what’s sure to continue to be an exciting series full of political maneuvering and intrigue.

The Winter Queen Stolen Empire Book 4 eBook Sherry D Ficklin Reviews
- I absolutely loved reading this story!! To be honest, I am completely in love with this entire series!!
The characters were remarkable. I loved reading about Elizabeth. I felt a real connection with this character. Her emotions literally just flowed from the pages as I read this story. I am a complete sucker for a strong female character.
The story-line was incredible. I couldn't put this book down. I read it all completely through in one sitting because I couldn't help but be enchanted by this story and I desperately needed to know what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this read!! - I love the Stolen Empire series from Sherry but paying 4.00 for 50 something pages is a little outrages. I don't mind paying that or more for a full ebook.

*I received a copy of The Winter Queen in exchange for an honest review - I LOVED THIS! It's a quick read, but packed full of details that will leave you begging for more.
Elizabeth is a Princess, born to lead and do amazing things. Too bad, the council just see's her gender. Elizabeth has seen her brother die, been hurt by a man she loved and yet always remains strong. But when her dad the King falls ill, everything will change.
Elizabeth with her mother and sister, will go away for a few weeks. To spend time to recoup and come back strong. But when their mother left to care for the King, their lives changed again. They get word that their dad had passed and their mother named regent. However, the council won't let the King's choice of Elizabeth as the ruler....
Their mother sends them to a safe place where they will wed kind men and be safe from the Russian throne. While their mother has no choice but to claim their half nephew as the heir.
As the girls adjust to their new life and finally can be happy...things will turn again. But this time, there is nothing stopping Elizabeth from going to Russia and claiming what is rightfully hers. - Any of my followers will well-recall my obsession with Sherry D. Ficklin’s STOLEN EMPIRE saga. The trilogy that really opened my eyes to the world of YA History and changed my reading-life forever. A historian myself, I have always been astounded by Ficklin’s remarkable take on one of history’s most powerful women. But what of the Empress that helped to put her there?
Join Ficklin in another dive into Russia’s rich cultural history with THE WINTER QUEEN. Putting the life of Empress Elizabeth of Russia under the microscope for the first time for YA audiences. Long a figure of controversy, Ficklin digs deep into Elizabeth’s story to present a never-before-seen glimpse of one of Russia’s most prominent leading-ladies.
You thought Catherine had a story? Wait until you feast your eyes on this! This short sets the stage for a new Historical series focused on the life of Elizabeth’s early years leader to her time on the throne. The eldest daughter of Peter the Great himself, Elizabeth will go to great lengths to ensure the Romanov throne of the Empire. But just how far is she willing to go for God and Country?
Love, war, betrayal, death? No topic is sacred in this series that’s sure to be another bestseller from the brilliant mind of Ficklin.
A remarkable 5-star read from Ficklin that left me begging for more. Setting the stage for the upcoming first full novel in the series, you won’t want to miss this return to the Motherland with Sherry D. Ficklin and THE WINTER QUEEN! - I have been waiting for this sneak peek novella/book to come out FOREVER!! It was so worth the wait!! I LOVED it!! I devoured it, I read it all in a brief sitting and was instantly depressed when I was finished! I then re-read it, since I knew that I had missed some things (due to my zooming through the pages) - I wanted to see how it ended, but at the same time never wanted it to end!
If this novella is anything like the book that will follow then it is a MUST read and a must read NOW! I love this series way more than I ever thought that I would or expected to! We get to know Elizabeth and Petra and how their being born female is a negative, even when Elizabeth clearly shows she can be queen. We briefly meet Alexi, their half brother as well as Peter, their nephew who will one day rule.
We will laugh with Elizabeth, cry with her and demand justice for her. This book will leave the reader shocked, upset and at times literally cursing the author (sorry Sherry) - but most of all it will leave you wanting more...this novella packs the punch of a full length novel, but it is never enough for the reader!
An amazing prequel - now hurry summer because I NEED more!! - This book was impossible to put down, finished in a few hours. I can’t wait to see what more sherry has to come! I didn’t realize this was a series when I picked it and now need to go back and read books 1-3. There was a harsh truth and pain to the story that just made it so much more.
