""If you're failing at your job, you're in the wrong job!" This book is chock-full of insights that show you you don't need to work harder, learn new skills or rustle up more motivation to "do or be better." You may just be doing the wrong work or be in a job that is not right for you--but at the right company. So stop beating yourself up! So often we think we are not in control of our work lives, and we spend a lot of time complaining, but Laura Garnett makes it clear how we are totally in charge of our own career experience. Things can change. You can love what you do. All it takes is a little self-analysis, figuring out both what we are naturally good at and what we enjoy doing and feeds our soul. Perhaps my favorite parts of the book are the numerous case studies of clients Garnett has worked with as well as stories from her own life. I learned so much just from seeing what she and other people have done. Very inspirational!"

  • So many people struggle to find work they love, or to find joy in their work. In my own work, I see it show up as a cause of illness in my patients. Finding purpose and working in your zone of genius can be an amazing experience, and the author tells you just how to do this. It's not fluff, it's approachable and the tracker is the best! I'm starting to use it in my own work (which I already love, but the tracker will help keep me more in my zone of genius than I'm currently operating in). This is one of those books where you say, "I wish I'd had this years ago!" It's a fantastic book for those just starting out in the workforce as well as those who are unfulfilled in their jobs. It's also great for people who feel like they haven't yet found their calling. The tools provided are easy to follow and clearly explained. There are 4 people in my immediate family who could use this right now! I'm off to send copies to them. Honestly, this is a work of genius.

  • There have been many points along my career journey where I’ve felt lost and frustrated. At times, it has been hard to pinpoint why. That lack of clarity led to my having a fair share of career changes that didn’t always make a lot of sense.

In retrospect, and after reading the Genius Habit, I now realize that I’ve been misdiagnosing the source of my career frustration for years.

Reading the Genius Habit felt like I was going through much needed career therapy. The self-awareness I gained as I was going through the activities in this book made it so easy for me to connect the dots that have shaped my career journey. I now get why I’ve been frustrated, and now know how to change that outcome!

The great thing about this book is that it’s not just inspiration and fluff!!

The book is full of practical tips and advice, that I genuinely believe anyone can benefit from!! The tracking techniques in the book are super easy to understand and use, and have been a great way for me to stay present in my work and to ensure I’m always bringing my Genius to the table.

I wish I had this book years ago, because it would have saved me a lot of stress and aggravation. I’m so happy that I have it now to help guide me to a happier and more fulfilling career.

Everyone says that having a career you love is possible, and now, I finally know how to have one too thanks to the Genius Habit!!

I cannot recommend this book more for anyone feeling lost or frustrated in their career who is looking for actionable advice to achieving success and career fulfillment!
  • Finally! I'm so happy this book is out in the world so that employees and entrepreneurs alike finally understand that every experience is a breadcrumb for figuring out what your genius is. So instead of interpreting a perceived "failure" as a death sentence or commentary on your worth, it's actually a clue to what your actual genius is. And once you've nailed that, you have so much more choice in your value (aka genius) and what you choose to pursue. Laura lays this out with both practical tools, as well as through stories so that readers can put this advice into use and step more quickly and directly into their zone of genius.
  • I loved The Genius Habit and I wish I had this book when I was just starting out. I am encouraging my daughter who is about to go to college to read it so that she can figure her Zone of Genius and keep that in mind as she's thinking about her classes and her future career. As for me, I found the tracker illuminating. The practice of filling it out every week has highlighted to me that there are ways in which I could be managing my own mental chatter more positively and prioritizing my time more effectively. I also think that this information is key for a management team for focus and productivity. I know that I am going to be recommending this book to my team at work and for those reporting into them as well. This is a great book for anyone who wants to take their work performance to the next level and is not sure how to take the first step in that direction.
  • Some people think finding their "dream job" is like searching for a unicorn. But not for Laura Garnett ) In her book The Genius Habit, Laura offers a truly fresh take on finding work you love and staying engaged throughout your career. This is not your typical career book—The Genius Habit challenges the norm and asks you to rethink common advice like "follow your passion" and "find a mentor."

I loved the author's overarching message that career happiness is something that you can create for yourself. The answers are right there, embedded in your life history and daily habits, as long as you take a moment to tune in and build your self-awareness.

And finally, Laura's energy and conviction just jump off the page. This is a delightful read that has you energized and full of ideas every time you close the covers.
